FAQ

Common questions from families

What is the difference between essay coaching and essay editing?

+

Essay coaching is a guided process — brainstorming, drafting, and revising together. Essay editing is a focused pass on a draft the student has already written. My Statement Studio coaches and provides feedback rather than rewriting.

When should students begin the Common App essay?

+

Most students benefit from starting in late spring or early summer before senior year. Starting earlier means more room to brainstorm, revise, and breathe.

Do you work virtually?

+

Yes. Based in Manhattan Beach, California. Serving students globally, I work with students in person and over Zoom, Google Meet, or phone.

Do you work with students outside California?

+

Yes — virtual coaching is available for students globally.

How many essay revisions do students usually complete?

+

Most personal statements go through three to five focused rounds — brainstorm, draft, structural revision, line edits, and a final polish.

What grades do you work with?

+

Primarily juniors and seniors on applications, and students in grades 8–10 through High School Exploration & Planning.
